Luciana Caporaso- Drops of Jupiter

"It starts with a line and grows, one mark here, one splash there. I step back and keep thinking what next, and every line and mark and color change until my mind can rest and say “that’s it, no more”. The hardest part is trusting that a piece is complete. I could keep going but I respect the white on each board too much! The negative space is vital to the contradiction of shapes and form and it’s in this balance that I find joy. I often look at my finished pieces and don’t even remember creating them or making the gestures that created the shapes but I do remember in vivid detail how I felt while making it.  

I love the pureness of it and that there is no going back. Stroke by stroke it emerges. A composition of elements. That’s art. It’s an exorcism of sorts, something I needed to expel out of me. Each one part dream, part past; a visual part of me, they are all self-portraits like a snapshot of who I was at that very moment." -Luciana Caporaso
