"This painting is loosely based on the novel Moby Dick by Herman Melville. The model for the "whale" is a hybrid of a yellow rubber duck and a rubber whale, which I painted with white spray paint. I chose to make the whale smaller than the one in Moby Dick so that it would not overwhelm the composition. The toy sailing ship is manned by a crew of yellow rubber ducklings. All the main subjects are scaled up in relation to the waves to personify the crew."

Lame Ducks is a series of humorous paintings by Florida artist Kevin Grass featuring yellow rubber ducks. The ducks are used in literal meanings as puns or in plays on words. Rubber ducks have no gender and no race, so everyone can enjoy these images without feeling excluded. The paintings are meant to make you smile and enjoy a lighthearted side of contemporary art. They are painted with the same meticulous Northern Renaissance style detailing that I have become known for, yet show the smart-alecky side of my nature.
