“This painting was created as an important part of the exhibition and body of works titled LA VIDA… During the creation of these paintings, I chose to dedicate one nontraditional-sized canvas to the female gender, as I wanted to express my admiration and respect for a mother-to-be in her wonderful position of creator of life, conduct, and extension of universal evolution.
I have great respect for all women; women of all corners of the world, creeds, and belief systems… each unique in their individual nature and ways in which they chose to carry on with their lives… ‘Mothers,’ however, inspire in me the deepest respect for the role for which they were chosen and for the strength, dignity, and integrity of their motherhood and natural and beautiful transformation process during their time of expecting their child.
I have come to realize that the love of a mother for her child knows no boundaries, no race, no geographical position. The love from a mother in South America is the same love from a mother in China, or the Netherlands, or New York City, or California, USA.
Motherhood is a heroic, valiant, and lifetime commitment to their offspring… regardless of circumstances, ideal or not, the connection of mother and child is always present; continuity of the gestation period, the birth, the early years, and the upbringing never ceases to connect their lives, they will forever be mother and child.
Mothers: the center of any home, the rock, the suspension system, the counselor, the nurse, the confidant, the dream maker, the patient student, and later, teacher… lastly. Love comes in many colors, and ‘discipline’ is one of those colors; no one better than a mother to know the art of inspiring discipline onto her children, they achieve this larger-than-usual task by example.
For all these and many more reasons, I very respectfully created the painting LA VIDA - PROCREACIÓN (Life - Procreation), my homage to women as mothers, creators of life.” -Orlando Agudelo-Botero
